Formed 29 million years ago when the North American and Pacific plates collided, the Rio Grande Gorge carves its way through Northern New Mexico, carrying with it secrets of the geologic ages. Home to ancient forests, petroglyphs, hidden hot springs and ruins, the Gorge descends 800 feet into the depths of the earth, and the Rio Grande river continues to deepen the rift, bringing with it new landscapes and new life.
